Choreographer and dancer Sol Picó continues to reinforce her status as one of Spain's leading contemporary dance artists. Since founding her company in 1994, the Alcoy-born performer has developed a distinctive artistic language that blends contemporary dance, flamenco, theatre and elements of popular culture.
Recognised for her signature combination of flamenco performed on pointe shoes, powerful stage presence and a unique sense of humour, Picó has taken her productions to more than 40 countries. Throughout her career, she has created more than 30 productions for both theatres and large-scale outdoor performances, transforming everyday spaces into extraordinary artistic experiences.
Her innovative work has earned some of the performing arts' highest honours, including Spain's National Dance Award, the Creu de Sant Jordi and ten MAX Awards, alongside numerous national and international distinctions.
Beyond her creative work, Sol Picó promotes contemporary dance through La Piconera, the company's headquarters in Barcelona. The venue serves as a creative hub for rehearsals, artistic residencies, training programmes and collaborations with emerging and established artists.
