Mercat de les Flors (Barcelona) EL LLAC DE LES MOSQUES“Perhaps a good spin can change your life”
…. of what happened to Snow White when she got married to Prince Charming… she entered the palace and she got depressed; neither adapting nor accepting nor agreeing. How easy it is to win the world and lose your soul. The wrinkles appeared and happiness disappeared… What great times those were with the dwarfs!
Better not to look at yourself at the mirror or ask yourself questions, just in case…
Reinvent yourself or die and if we all have to die, then let’s hope we are at peace.
Amen
Sol Picó
Synopsis:
Our forties?-The good thing about being in your forties is that it is a good excuse to change your life. Be selfish, leave your children and husband and throw yourself into the void of a new relationship, or not. To be in a bad mood just ‘because’ or to go wild -all because of mid-life crisis.
And our fifties? The long awaited menopause. And our sixties? Nicking stuff in the supermarket without ending up in prison, the trip of a lifetime and the long-awaited retirement.
Are we just carrying around too much baggage?
Do we even know what we are carrying around in our backpack?
Is our genetic inheritance weighing us down?
Perhaps the solution for giving up smoking is the menthol cigarettes that our mothers used to smoke?
Do we all have the same uncertainty?
When we reach a certain age it is fairly normal and dare I say recommendable to stop and reflect on our lives.
I propose a round-the-world trip with Aphrodite and her rocket-launching breasts remote controlled by the Mala Sombra (Bad Shadow) brothers.
I propose an adventure, a round trip, looking forwards and backwards, up and down -I feel sea sick!
How did we manage to get here? What else is there left to do? What haven’t we been able to do or achieve so far?

June 30, 2011 PETRA, LA MUJER ARAÑA Y EL PUTÓN DE LA ABEJA MAYATaking the emblematic work of R.W. Fassbinder, “The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant”, as her starting point, Sol Picó recreates a world of emotionally devastated monsters, lacking love and suffocating in cruelty, that move, talk and hurt each other behind the scenes of a sinister circus. As they pass, they see Petra, the ringmistress, presenting her collection of broken human models that are sick with the lack of love. Beautiful, arrogant and self-absorbed, Petra falls into an obsessive love for her latest acquisition, Karin, only to end up exploited, rejected and humiliated. Desperate, her disintegration in the face of losing love is total.
In this new show, Sol Picó presents us with a reflection on monstrosity and love, transporting us into the realm of physical and visceral theatre, exploring the themes of power, obsession, violence and humiliation, monsters that once taking hold in human relations, destroy them. If the lack of love engenders sickly monsters, perhaps love is the first remedy. But in the circus humour is always around the corner; a sense of the absurd that gives rise to a doubt – to laugh or to cry?
Sol Picó’s exciting and forceful piece is a culmination of the choreographer and dancer’s recent theatrical experiences, such as working with actresses from the theatre of text and mixing the power of the word with the power of movement, interchanging their energies, entering and leaving one space for another, fragmenting and de-structuring the work. The cast is made up of five dancers and two actresses with Maru Valdivieso as the leading part.

May 18, 2012 SPANISH OMELETTESol Picó, next to a dancer, a percussionist and a violinist, recovers the essence of her first street pieces, taking direct contact with the public and showing both her wild side and the most vulnerable at a time.
A striking piece on the antagonism between the attachment as addiction and the insignificance of things, with the language of Sol Picó and her fundamental tools: irony and transgression.
From the abstraction of an open space we are moved to the daily life of a busy kitchen, where the public will take an active part of the show.

November 9, 2012 MEMÒRIES D’UNA PUÇAIn this show, Sol will give us her particular point of view about DECADENCE, about GRIEF a hot subject in this moment of economical and social convulsion in Spain.
We see The Loss as an opportunity. This thought sums up the soul of the new creation of Sol Picó, Memòries d’una puça (“Memoirs of a flea”) A reflection on the crisis that shakes the world, as a devastating hurricane that prevents us to advance, an impossible Exodus, and on the need to change this world, to escape from this suffocating situation.
Three nomads, pathetic up close and insignificant in the distance, which propose a transhumant trip, with an ending that leaves them adrift, like a message in a bottle, a desire, a desperate call for help…
The fantasy and absurdity are the focuses of this choreographic piece. A sincere, austere, minimalist and convulsed exercise.
Memòries d’una puça (“Memoirs of a flea”) is a proposal of reflection from the dance about Decadence, about Grief expressed as a “road movie”.
In the constant movement, are we running away or moving forward?
What are we leaving behind and how does it affect us?
To what extent are we taking part in the building of our future?
The relationships we establish in this nomadic journey, are of complicity, are they collaborative?
Who they are and how we choose our traveling companions?

July 6, 2015 WE WOMENSol Picó presents a collaborative project on contemporary women, asking herself about the condition of women. It is a collective view of women together with other choreographers: artists with whom they share their profession and concerns and with whom the role of women within the current social structure will be reconsidered. These artists, all with perspectives that come from diametrically opposite cultures but with important points in common, have been crossed through casual encounters that have ended up converging in this project.
These artists, some of which have had to break the prevailing schemes in their cultures of origin, have different styles, techniques and languages, that can even be unknown to her companions, but they all raise the same questions and seek the same answers.
Ways of dancing that combine different techniques and languages unknown among them but united will seek to deepen in a theme that continues in force despite the passage of time: the situation of women in today’s world. A complex subject that opens doors to many questions: What is the historical neglect of a fundamental part of the artistic contribution of women? Why does your legacy disappear?, Why roads already covered have to be opened again? And perhaps the fundamental question: Why, in times of political correctness in which Western women are constantly reminded that we have equal opportunities, do these questions still arise?
