A saxophonist and a dancer confront each other, they hate each other, they love each other… until they are exhausted.

Imagine that you put a saxophonist and a dancer in a blender for 20 minutes… the result SPITBRIDES.

Sol Picó reflects on the stereotypes of passion and disappointment in love. E.N.D.(Esto no danza) is a mixture of tenderness and fierceness that shows the pernicious effects of love taken as an antidote against death; and the pernicious effects of death taken as an antidote to love. Protagonists: a virtual and voluptuous tenor, a virtuous and maternal soprano, a prince who comes out frog and a princess who wakes up to discover that the story is over. The viewer contemplates a tragicomic ballad, a satirical poem, a romantic novel, a suspense movie, a passionate opera, a naive comedian, a sentimental soap opera, a dance show, finally, for a non-specialized audience, an audience of people common with common stories, everyday stories of love and heartbreak, exciting stories for an exciting show: E.N.D.

D.V.A. A parade made up of 4 large mobile structures, moved by human traction. Followed by a stop of 25 minutes approx., where a dance/theater ritual is performed, to the rhythm of live electronic music. The show uses and adapts to the urban space.

The mastery of the choreographer Sol Picó and the overflowing creativity of La Danaus form a perfect symbiosis for a street piece; great for its elements, rich for its variety, entertaining for its personality, amusing for its acting and characters, corrosive for its content. D.V.A., fills the viewer with a world of spectacular surprises.

The parade, consists of 4 mobile structures, made by the plastic artist Oscar de Paz, which measure 5 meters and are moved by human traction. The actors and dancers climb on the structures, interpreting characters full of expression and content, but with very small and slow movements, contrasting with the colossity of the structures that carry them.

In the second part, with the structures stopped, the actors and dancer perform a ritual dance using the urban space. Where the actors dance and the dancers interpret. A ritual with 5 parts: the meeting, the dance of the disabled, the choreography on 4 moving plates in which the 4 dancers interpret a bolero with their feet fixed to the ground, the techno-tango-sardana and the post-nuclear dance. The music of the entire work is performed live by the Catalan musicians, Mireia Tejero and Carlos López.

A dance and theatre piece of Sol Picó. A risky and solid work, engaging as it is dynamic, consuming and fun.

Synopsis:

It is Sol Picó´s cherished hope to come out of this unharmed. She transforms an obstacle course of confrontations into a passion game filled with humour and dynamism.

It is inventive with a refined technique of airs of an ingenious serpent or a cheeky fairy tale gnome; all this mixed with an unending appeal for audience complicity makes for a staging of passionate encounters which brim with charm.

Sol Picó has not come into the world of dance to maintain a tradition. On the contrary, as a transgressor, it is her aim to push the invisible limits of the “forth wall” in a heterodox use of theatre elements.

In Kiss Me a Cactus, Sol Picó proposes a series of intense images stripped of the superfluous. The action unfolds in an stenography of a mere 4 elements. All the scenes make reference to fear and danger which forms the basis of the show.

The simplicity of the idea put forward (which in reality hides the omplexity our imaginations and vital experiences can bring to it), cuts the distance between the audience and protagonist creating the sensation of complicity in all that happens to her.

This intimate choreography and the generosity and credibility which Sol Picó transmits on stage creates the necessary ingredients for a climate of confidence necessary in an open dialogue about such prickly subjects.

Diesel Love is a spectacle born from a Sol Picó’s old idea of creating a dancing piece on a digger. After a co-directing experience with Kike Blanco in D.V.A. – Dubious Artistic Value – a necessity of keeping working together appears; and also the idea of going on creating dancing shows specially conceived for large open spaces.

With this intention in mind, the idea of a large dimensions show for a huge number of spectators but without a too complicated logistic effort starts being developed in a joint-production work between Sol Picó Dancing Company and La Viuda, Kike Blanco’s current company.

Diesel Love is a fifty minutes dancing piece for three ballerinas and three diggers. A great love story of three women who coming back home from a party at any night, ending up by being victims of a shameless Stockholm Syndrome. A surrealistic story – as all stories – in which actually no one exists.

DIESEL LOVE…A POSSIBLE LOVE?

SHE – I’m worried, this way on there is a sunflowers field that stare at me when I pass by their side and whisper between them. When I turn round they all dissemble looking at the sun.

After all it is not so strange my fondness for petrol. At long last we will be able to make some money when problems appear.

MACHINE – Rrrrr….

SHE – I guess I’m starting to like you, my little machine

MACHINE – Rrrrr….

SHE – Now that you have won me, you will go away, and then I’ll have to tie my heart up with a rope in order not to loose it; … I don’t know. Maybe I should stuff you and then set you up on the dinning-room, but you are really huge and I even don’t know what to do with the petrol puddles you leave me all over the house.

MACHINE – Rrrrr….

SHE – You could do something for your part, couldn’t you? Or at least stop purring!

MACHINE – Rrrrr….

SHE – My parents already told me; look for another one, you won’t get anything out from someone who does nothing but casting up fumes, he will dig a trench and then he’ll get as far away as possible.

It shouldn’t surprise us that, upon entering here, someone should remind us the words of that old sage:
-“Woman does not exist.
There is only the human person fallen on Woman’s side.”-
Magic?
Rhetoric?
Whatever the case be, it surely is indispensable material for Sol Picó when she’s to confront the Womanly.
Few entrances interest her.
But if there is one for which she bears a weakness (in all meanings of the word), it’s that which leads her directly to the rattrap of the barbarous, the savage, of living it all to the limit, ‘till she bursts.
Lies.
It was but a dream, a bluff of the “Picotian” world, a grotesque wink upon the us and them.
And yet again…
So she speaks when comes the moment to contaminate the scene and people it with beings straight from the suburbia of her own exile (which is already an exile!), beings who accept to reconvert her obsessions into performance, into dishes for our delight.

SYNOPSIS

A performance which explores ‘Woman’s’ universe. Nine female performers, six dancers and three musicians who, during sixty minutes, dedicate themselves to the construction and deconstruction of the female imaginary.

Sol once more takes us on a stroll through her personal world of rituals. The performers lead us to Sol’s subconscious world from which spill over, as from a cocktail shaker, imaginary sites, impossible relationships.

Those qualities historically associated with the female condition –beauty, vulnerability –contrast with the harsher side, energetic and combative, which women must assume in real life.

Dancers, poets, painters, housewives…trapped in their mirror, turn into gingerbread figures, statues of salt, heroines of tales and legends.

In this vertiginous shift towards absurdity all barriers of gender turn to dust: woman is masculine, dance transforms into theatre and classical music into Samba, French chanson and techno Sardana, without forgetting the traditional steps of Holy Week or the traditional procession towards feverish Saturday night’s disco. Yet another passionate gift.

Four essential ingredients make out Paella Mixta, they are these four characters, a curious mix between some kind of monks that came out of some strange order and funny characters that seem to come from a comic book, they make us part of their own rituals, and they transmit us the strong presence of the world that surrounds them…a noisy world, unstoppable and too fast, that runs in front of our eyes, angry and restless. A world that like them sometimes is seductive and others combative, but that at the same time it is our world.

In the form of a comic and with a good dose of surrealism this is the story of a diva who comes from up high and on her way comes down in the world. She is suffocated in her own divaism, full of solitude, desperately trying to find a way down to the real world with people who understand her, but instead she finds a cruel world, full of incommunication, of strange people who manipulate her, envelop her, wear her out and try to make her insane.

This is the story of a visionary and oneiric journey with an unexpected outcome. The flexibility of the scenography enables its representation in middle and large scale theatres. There is also the possibility to have the 3 musicians perform live (percussions, voice, saxophone and effects).

Sol Picó, one of the leading names in modern contemporary dance, is on this occasion, working alongside her regular faithful tribe tempting us with a new proposal: an invitation to explore far beyond our usual places and comfort zones. A voyage in which we discover individuals who, tired of their life on earth, decide to embark on an expedition into space. When they reach their destination they will meet unexpected characters, who, once upon a time, got the same idea…

The show gathers 7 characters and lasts about 70 minutes. The flexibility of the scenography enables its representation in middle and large scale theatres. There is also the possibility to have the 3 musicians perform live (percussions, voice, saxophone and effects)

Sol Picó belongs to that generation of stage artists who invent worlds, creators of a unique style and personal language beyond the established and preconceived, more aware of the vital impulses. Poeticising even the most low-down and vile.

Once more she uses collage as a tool to behold fragments, impressions, images, movement and sounds held together to weave a surrealistic world paradoxically similar to our daily reality. Black humour skilfully balances the existential questions raised in this work.
